You Can Do It
Okay, I’m going to level with you here. Completely off the cuff, this is me speaking from my heart to your heart.
You might be in your 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, even 70s, I don’t know. And you might feel as though you want to redesign your life. You might have a business idea. There might be something that you’re itching to do. Maybe you feel some sort of need, or desire, or pull - a drive to bring something to life.
But everyone around you might be talking you out of it.
They may not be able to see the same vision as you.
They may not understand your ideas when you try to explain them, because they can’t see the picture you’ve designed in your head.
So I’m here today to tell you that you can do this. Think of this as your pep talk. This is your motivational speech. This is your sign, your permission(!) to go ahead and do the thing you want to do.
You CAN do it.
Bridging the Gap Between Where You Are and Where You Want to Be
Sit down. Plan it out. See where your skill gaps are and how you can fill them. It’s all about strategy, and figuring out what you need to do to get to where you want to be.
What’s going to create that bridge between where you are and where you want to be in your life? What does your life look like? What kind of person are you in that version of your life?
Every “Failure” Was a Lesson in Disguise
You might have the absolute best business idea in your head, and you might not know how to go about it. I’ve been there on numerous occasions. When it comes to a lot of businesses you can think of, I’ve pretty much been there, done that, and bought the t-shirt.
And what I used to consider “failure”, is, in hindsight, a massive learning experience. I’ve learned so much over the years as an entrepreneur. I’m now developing a portfolio of businesses, and I think it’s time I share some of the lessons I’ve picked up along the way.
Because not only has it taught me what to do to make things successful, but it’s also taught me what NOT to do, what to avoid, what kind of mindsets to steer clear of, and what kind of business acumen and strategy I need to get myself from where I was to where I want to be.
And I’m still crossing that bridge. I’m just a little way ahead of you, but I can share the skills and knowledge I’ve picked up. So that’s what I’m going to do.
Today Is Day One of Your New Chapter
Today, I want you to promise that this is going to be the first day of the rest of your life. The first day of a new chapter. Don’t wait for the next convenient time to start. Make the promise that this is the last day you’re going to accept and settle for a life that’s not what you want, habits you don’t want, acquaintances that are dragging you down, making you feel like your dream is unattainable.
It’s time to remove and weed out the things that are dragging you down.
Protect Your Vision From Energy Drainers
Now, I’m not saying cut people off—that’s not what I mean. But you DO need to drown out that noise. If you’re having conversations with people who drain your energy every time you talk about the thing you want to build, then you need to stop having those conversations.
Instead, have conversations with people who fuel your enthusiasm, your energy, and your drive. And if you don’t have those people around, then seek them out online. Look on YouTube. Binge-watch useful videos.
Learn Relentlessly – Find Pockets of Time (Yes, they are there)
I watch videos while I’m cooking, while I’m driving, while I’m walking the dog. I’ll have YouTube or Audible or business books playing. I’m constantly learning, constantly updating my skills and filling my skill gaps, so I can go and build what I want to create.
Step One: Identify Your Skill Gaps
So, I think the first thing I would say is: look at your skill gaps. What needs filling? What is the immediate knowledge or information that can help you start your journey (whatever that might be)?
What’s stopping you? What’s holding you back?
There’s SO much information out there. Yes, it gets noisy. Yes, it can feel overwhelming. But it’s about finding the things that resonate with you - what you personally want to create.
When you find the right information, it’ll feel like a soothing balm. It’ll feel like an answer to the questions you’ve been asking. And maybe this video is doing that for you. Maybe I’m speaking to you, heart to heart, and it’s resonating. If so, that’s fantastic.
I’m going to be making more videos to document my journey and to share my wisdom, my lessons, my failures, and my accomplishments with you. So you can use them as a kind of case study to shape your own project.
Step Two: Set Up Your Systems and Structure
Skill gaps, that’s definitely the first thing.
Setting up systems is another. Making sure you’ve got somewhere to keep track of everything: your ideas, systems, tools, strategy - everything to do with your business, branding, archetype, and so on.
I’m going to make videos about those topics, too. I’m also building a Trello board template. Once that’s up, I’ll put it in the description so you can download it and start using it if it’s useful to you.
Workflows and systems are definitely important to get you on the right track.
Structure Your Strategy with Focus and Mentorship
I go into laser focus mode. I learn everything I can. I find mentors online. I’ll have a “flavor of the month” that I binge-watch, someone whose content is closely aligned with what I want to do. That helps me plug those skill gaps and sort out the structure and strategy of where I want to go and how I want to get there.
Goal-setting is vital. But you’ve got to take it step by step.
Step Three: Take It Step by Step
That would be my third piece of advice: take it step by step.
Understanding the 3 Entrepreneur Archetypes
When building a business, you’ll usually tap into three core archetypes
1. The Creator – Idea generation, brainstorming, big-picture thinking.
2. The Architect – Planning. Mapping out the systems, strategy, and structure.
3. The Builder – Implementation. Actually building the website, funnels, network, whatever applies to your business model.
Connect the Dots: Creator, Architect, Builder
Most people are naturally good at two of those. One is usually the weak link. That’s where things can start to fall apart.
You might be great at coming up with ideas and building things but struggle with planning. Or maybe you’re great at ideas and planning but never actually build. Some are brilliant planners and builders, but lack that creative spark.
So, if you’re just getting started and trying to fuel your motivation, sit down and honestly assess yourself against those three archetypes. Which ones are your strengths? Which one is your weak link?
Fill the Gaps – Tools, Teams, or Partnership
That’s where you start plugging your skill gap. Find tools, resources, or people to bridge that gap.
Once you connect those three dots: 1) ideas, 2) plans, 3) build it, everything will start to flow more naturally.
And if one of those areas just isn’t your strength, if it feels alien to your personality or just doesn’t flow, that’s okay. You can partner with someone whose strength fills that gap. Or even just have conversations with them, or find tools that automate or support that part of the process.
That’s a really good starting point.
Confidence Is a Business Strategy
Lastly, I want you to know this: confidence and mindset are massive. You might be sitting there with the BEST idea on the planet, but if your confidence isn’t there, if you’re feeling imposter syndrome, or if you’re listening to people saying things like “the market’s oversaturated” or “you can’t do that”—you’ll never move forward.
The World Needs What You’re Building
Sometimes, our gift to the world is the very thing we create. People need what you’re building. Someone out there is looking for exactly what you bring to the table.
Let’s Redesign Your World Together
So it’s time. It’s time for you to do this.
And I’ll be here to hold your hand and help you through it if you need me.
Let’s redesign your life together.
